This person will be an integral member of the healthcare team and provide direct and indirect care to patients.xc2xa0xc2xa0JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESPerform routine administrative and patient care supportive duties in a Health System medical practice to assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensure office runs smoothly.Administrative duties may include but not limited to the following:Answer telephonesGreet patientsUpdate and file patient medical recordsFill out insurance formsHandle correspondenceSchedule appointmentsArrange for hospital admissionsArrange for laboratory servicesHandle billing and bookkeepingPerform other administrative duties as directedClinic Duties may include but not limited to the following:Taking medical histories and recording vital signsExplaining treatment procedures to patientsPreparing patients for examinations and proceduresAssisting the physician during the examination and proceduresCollect and prepare laboratory specimensPerform basic laboratory tests on the premises Dispose of contaminated suppliesSterilize medical instruments.Promote patient/family understanding of the educational content and his/her involvement in the plan of care, and document in patient record.Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physicianAuthorize drug refills as directedTelephone prescriptions to a pharmacyDraw bloodPrepare patients for x-rays, tests and procedures. Take electrocardiograms Remove sutures/ staples. Change sterile and non-sterile dressings.Perform other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by the physician.xc2xa0JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTSGraduation from accredited Medical Assistant programxc2xa0accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred.High school or GED graduation required.Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required.BLS requiredxc2xa0Some roles within our organization may encompass essential job functions requiring distinct physical and/or mental capabilities.
